THE PRAYER FOR TODAY God of power and love, who raised your Son Jesus from death to life, resplendent in glory to rule over all creation: free the world to rejoice in his peace, to glory in his justice, and to live in his love. Unite the human race in Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
TODAY’S READINGS Ephesians 1:15-23 by Arndrae GOSPEL Matthew 25:31-46
NOTES FROM WARREN’S BLOG - “The (Theo)illogical Gospel”. The gospel of Jesus stands out against all the 'logics' of the world. In this sense, the gospel is illogical. For example, a king born amongst the dung; a local king (Herod) willing to kill the children of a whole area to snuff out a nobody; the Christ who is a refugee; a Christ who calls sinners to be his disciples; the crucified Christ; and the unity of cross and resurrection, a gospel that never leaves behind the cross of Jesus in favour of his resurrection; a messiah known most easily in history in the form of the hungry and imprisoned. The gospel just doesn't fit our usual perceptions. And this alerts us to the perennial danger for disciples and churches, the temptation to domesticate the gospel (by making it more 'logical' and 'reasonable') because of the discomfort the mismatch provides. The temptation is to either change/ignore bits of the gospel or fib about our humanity (in all its glory and depravity). So how do we prevent this, as much as possible anyway? A couple of points:
• Be suspicious of glib answers. Feeding the poor is not as easy as it sounds in the complexity of life. Yet this is not an excuse for not doing it. The real complexity of human community does not easily yield to immediate solutions very often.
• Be suspicious of glib theology. The kind of thing that slices off aspects of the gospel that don't 'fit'. Examples abound, but the usual targets of this trimming are the bits about peace and justice, and the traditional parts that make Jesus Lord, messiah, Son of God, etc.
• Be honest about your own humanity and our common experience of humanity as we currently experience it. Let's not hide the brokenness, but not wallow in it.

Bishop Pierre calls for prayer for Congo today

As you know, the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to fester. Much is still underreported. In addition to the crisis in the Goma region, there are two areas of rebel activity in Congo which have not hit the news: the Dungu area, in the north, where the Lord's Resistance Army has attacked villages and abducted adults and children in recent weeks, and also the Gety/Aveba/Nyankunde region, close to Bunia, where a new militia group emerged in late September and displaced many people from their homes.

Our Anglican sisters and brothers in those areas have been deeply affected, and are in the forefront of relief efforts and peacemaking.

I am echoing Archbishop Fidèle Dirokpa's call for a day of prayer for peace in the Congo on Sunday 23 November.

You can use the following prayer, if you like, or do your own. O God of peace and abundant life, You call peacemakers your children. Let your Holy Spirit guide and govern all those who are making peace in Congo, and give them success,

So that all your people may have that abundant life promised through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the same Spirit, one God in Holy Trinity. Amen.

Episcopal Relief and Development is sending aid. Please encourage your people to help in any way they can prayer first, but also material help as well. See http://www.er-d.org/ for information on sending direct help.

Here is a short documentary on the underlying issues that have led to what is called "The Third World War." Five million have already died...http://www.mediastorm.org/0022.htm Thank you in advance,+Pierre
